Giants take two from Padres
San Francisco won both of its games at the Padres, winning 3-2 in Tuesday’s 10-inning finale. Andrew McCutchen led the way as he went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk from the leadoff spot. Evan Longoria finished 2-for-5 with a triple and a run scored. Brandon Crawford was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Gorkys Hernandez went 0-for-2, but drew two walks and drove in one. Tony Watson threw a perfect inning of relief with a strikeout to pick up the win. Will Smith gave up one hit and struck out one to earn his sixth save of the season.
D-backs split with Rangers
AFter dropping game one of its two-game series at home with Texas, the Diamondbacks prevailed in a 6-0 shutout Tuesday night. Zack Godley was outstanding on the mound as he gave up only two hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk over seven innings to get the win. Jon Jay was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI to help lead the offense. Paul Goldschmidt went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI. A.J. Pollock was 1-for-4 with a solo home run. Steven Souza Jr. ended the game 1-for-3 with a walk and a run. Nick Ahmed was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, two runs and two RBIs. Alex Avila completed the contest by going 2-for-3 plus a walk.
Madison Bumgarner (3-4, 3.06 ERA) draws the start for the Giants today, while Arizona will go with Zack Greinke (12-5, 2.96).
MLB Betting Trends
San Francisco
The under is 15-5-1 in the last 21 Giants road games. San Francisco is 2-6 in its last eight Thursday games.
Arizona
The Diamondbacks are 5-12 in their last 17 home games. Arizona is 19-8 in its last 27 home games.
Prediction:
It’s strange seeing Bumgarner as this big of an underdog, but being on the road and with an offense backing him that isn’t likely to score much against Greinke it makes sense. Greinke has been on a roll the last couple months and I doubt it changes here. Go with the home team in this spot as they ride their ace to a win.
