Rays falter late, fall in 12
Tampa Bay lost 10-9 in 12 innings Saturday at Toronto to drop to 59-48 overall and 31-22 on the road. The Rays led 9-3 in the eighth before allowing two runs in that inning and four more in the ninth to blow the advantage. Travis d’Arnaud paced the Tampa Bay offense as he finished 2-for-5 with a home run, a walk, two runs and three RBIs. Willy Adames went 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, two runs and three RBIs. Guillermo Heredia ended the game 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Emilio Pagan suffered the loss as he gave up one earned run on one hit with no strikeouts and two walks over 1 1/3 innings. Yonny Chirinos will start today for the Rays as he enters with an 8-5 record, 3.29 ERA and 1.02 WHIP plus 102 strikeouts over 117 2/3 innings.
Hernandez hits walk-off homer
The second solo home run of the game by Teoscar Hernandez in the bottom of the 12th inning sent host Toronto to a come-from-behind 10-9 victory in 12 innings Saturday. The two home runs were his only hits in six at-bats. Brandon Drury went 4-for-6 with two home runs and three RBIs. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. finished 2-for-6 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Cavan Biggio was 1-for-3 with a solo home run and three walks. Daniel Hudson earned the win in relief as he struck out one in one perfect inning of work. Aaron Sanchez will start tonight for the Blue Jays as he comes in with a 3-14 record, 6.06 ERA and 1.72 WHIP with 89 strikeouts over 107 innings pitched.
