Goodrum drives in lone run
Detroit lost by a count of 8-1 at Seattle Saturday afternoon as it lost 30-70 overall and 17-34 on the road. Niko Goodrum led the Tigers offense as he finished 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Brandon Dixon ended the contest 2-for-4. JaCoby Jones was 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Tyler Alexander suffered the loss as he allowed four earned runs on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings, striking out nine and walking one. Matthew Boyd draws the start today as he enters with a 6-8 record, 4.07 ERA and 1.13 WHIP with 168 strikeouts over 126 innings pitched.
M's roll to win
Seattle eased to an 8-1 home win over Detroit Saturday afternoon to improve to 45-63 overall and 25-32 at home. Austin Nola led the way for the Mariners as he finished 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, a walk, two runs and three RBIs. Omar Narvaez went 4-for-5 with two runs. Tim Beckham ended the game 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, two runs and an RBI. Ryan Court finished 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. Tommy Milone draws the start today for Seattle as he comes in with a 1-5 record, 4.45 ERA and 1.07 WHIP with 56 strikeouts over 60 2/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
The Tigers are 12-50 in their last 62 games. Detroit is 2-7 in its last nine Sunday games.
The Mariners are 0-4 in their last four Sunday games. Seattle is 19-7 in its last 26 home meetings versus the Tigers.
Detroit sends its best starting pitcher to the mound in Boyd in what could be his final start in a Tigers uniform with the trade deadline looming. But he doesn't have much support at all behind him and Milone has pitched better than his numbers suggest. I can't find a good argument to take Detroit here, especially on a shorter line. While Boyd will probaby keep Detroit in the game, I don't see a win for the visitors in the cards.
