Rays edge Red Sox in finale
Tampa Bay secured a 3-2 home win Wednesday afternoon over Boston to improve to 58-47 overall and 28-26 at home. Tommy Pham finished the contest 1-for-3 with a solo home run plus a walk to help lead the offense. Joey Wendle ended the game 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Guillermo Heredia went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Charlie Morton picked up the win on the mound as he gave up two earned runs on five hits with 11 strikeouts and no walks over seven innings. Emilio Pagan earned the save as he struck out two in a perfect inning of work. Diego Castillo will serve as the opener tonight as he enters with a 1-6 record, 3.96 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with 43 strikeouts over 43 2/3 innings pitched.
Blue Jays held to one hit
Toronto lost by a count of 4-0 Wednesday afternoon at home versus Cleveland as it was held to one hit. Eric Sogard was 1-for-4 with a double to keep the hosts from being no-hit. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ended the contest 0-for-2 with a walk. Marcus Stroman took the loss as he gave up one earned run on five hits with six strikeouts and one walk over seven innings of work. Jacob Waguespack will start tonight for the Blue Jays as he comes in with a 1-0 record, 5.68 ERA and 1.47 WHIP with 20 strikeouts over 19 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Tampa Bay
The Rays are 2-7 in their last nine games overall. Tampa Bay is 9-2 in the last 11 Castillo starts.
Toronto
The Blue Jays are 25-51 in their last 76 games overall. Toronto is 1-4 in its last five games versus the AL East.
Prediction:
Tampa Bay will hope Castillo is over his struggles and gets his squad going tonight with a solid inning or two, but the Rays as a whole haven’t been great lately. Waguespack shows some promise and I think he does well enough against a Rays offense that hasn’t done a lot of damage over the last week-plus. I think Toronto is a good dog bet today as we look to take advantage of the Rays heading to the road and not playing their best baseball right now.
