White Sox on an upswing
The White Sox have taken the first two games in this series, including a 4-2 win on Tuesday. Chicago has won three of its last four and six of its last nine. Chicago is now 36-64 overall with a 17-35 record on the road. The Sox are putting up just 4.01 runs per game on the year while allowing 5.26 per contest.
James Shields gets the start for the White Sox tonight. He has a 4-11 record through 21 starts this season. He has a 4.26 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. Shields has pitched a total of 133.0 innings this year and has 97 strikeouts with 50 walks.
Angels fall again
The Angels look like they are out of the playoff picture unless they quickly turn things around. They have lost five of their last six following Tuesday’s 4-2 loss. They are 50-52 overall now with a 25-27 record at home. Los Angeles is scoring 4.36 runs per game this year to lead the team while allowing 4.17 per contest.
Tyler Skaggs will get the start for the Angels this evening. He has a 7-6 record through 18 starts with a 2.68 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. Skaggs has pitched a total of 104.0 innings this year and has 106 strikeouts with 31 walks.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The White Sox are just 5-21 in Shields’ last 26 road starts and 3-8 in his last 11 overall starts.
Los Angeles
The Angels have won five of Skaggs’ last seven starts overall and four of his last five starts against a losing team.
Prediction:
Skaggs has been pretty good for the Angels this year, but is coming off a loss and has dealt with a lack of run support at times this year. Shields has poor numbers for the season, but has been pretty good late. Outside of an awful showing against Houston, Shields has allowed just two earned runs or less in five of his last six starts. Given how this series has played out and the very lopsided odds, I like the Sox for the upset. Shields is pitching well and up against a struggling team in Los Angeles.
The Pick: Chicago White Sox +190
