Yankees’ Tanaka looks good in no-decision vs. Indians
Masahiro Tanaka allowed just two runs over 6 1/3 frames but settled for a no-decision in the Yankees’ loss to the Indians on Sunday. Tanaka served up a two-run shot to Edwin Encarnacion in the fourth inning, extending his streak of starts allowing a homer to eight and pushing his total on the year to 18 dingers given up across 83 1/3 innings. However, those were the only runs he gave up in this one and he threw just 77 pitches over his 6 1/3 frames. Tanaka looks like a decent buy-low candidate for the second half, but he has to get his home run issues under control.
Rays place Blake Snell on DL, will start Chirinos vs. Yankees
Rays recalled RHP Yonny Chirinos from Triple-A Durham. He’ll start Tuesday against the Yankees in place of Blake Snell (shoulder). Chirinos has done a fine job in his chances with the big club this season with a 3.71 ERA and 24/9 K/BB ratio over 26 2/3 innings across five starts and one relief appearance. He should not be streamed versus the Yanks, though.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Yankees are winless in their last five games versus the Rays.
Tampa Bay
The Rays are 4-0 in their last four home games versus the Yankees.
Prediction:
I don’t see the Rays’ winning streak versus the Yankees continuing tonight. The Yankees have won nine of Tanaka’s last 11 starts versus the Rays, are 8-3 in his last 11 starts overall, and are 7-3 in his last 10 road starts. The Yankees are also 44-16 in their last 60 games coming off a loss.
The Pick: New York Yankees -1.5
