Belt, Crawford look to continue strong seasons
San Francisco first baseman Brandon Belt has put together a strong season as he batted .287 with 13 home runs and 42 RBIs, getting on base at a .383 clip with a .862 OPS. Shortstop Brandon Crawford made the NL All-Star team after a first half in which he hit .292 with 10 home runs and 39 RBIs, holding a .363 OBP and an .825 OPS. Belt has an oWAR of 3.0, while Crawford’s oWAR is at 2.1.
Davis having another big HR season
Khris Davis is enjoying another year full of home runs, hitting 21 long balls in the first half, posting an .827 OPS. The only player on the Athletics with a better OPS is second baseman Jed Lowrie, who racked up 16 home runs and 62 RBIs. Lowrie has a team-best 3.5 oWAR, while Davis’ oWAR is 2.3. First baseman Matt Olson has 19 home runs, while outfielders Stephen Piscotty and Mark Canha both have 12 home runs on a team full of power.
Dereck Rodriguez (4-1, 2.89 ERA) draws the start today for the Giants, while the A’s counter with Edwin Jackson (1-1, 2.59).
MLB Betting Trends
San Francisco
The under is 8-1 in the last nine Giants road games. The over is 7-0-1 meetings in Oakland.
Oakland
The Athletics are 8-1 in their last nine interleague games. Oakland is 21-6 in its last 27 games overall.
Prediction:
Oakland has been as hot as anyone as of late and Jackson has provided a solid arm in the rotation. But sometimes a break can halt the hot play in a heartbeat. With Rodriguez showing himself as a trusted piece in the Giants rotation, I’m going to take the Giants to notch the small upset on the road here. Jackson is fully capable of imploding as he’s done plenty in his career of ups and downs.
