Rangers’ Gallardo beats Tigers for third straight win
Yovani Gallardo allowed four runs — three earned — on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings in a win over the Tigers on Thursday. Gallardo wasn’t anything close to dominant, as he has yet to be in any of his four starts with the Rangers, but he’s managed to win each of his last three starts, despite a 5.87 ERA as a member of the Texas club. He’s got an even less impressive 8.17 ERA and 1.70 WHIP through 25 1/3 innings overall, and a good deal of run support doesn’t change the fact that he’s a below-average pitcher at this stage of his career. The Red Sox should enjoy their meeting with Gallardo Tuesday.
Red Sox’ Velazquez in line to start Tuesday for Red Sox
Hector Velazquez is expected to start for the Red Sox on Tuesday against the Rangers. The Red Sox are pretty banged up in their rotation right now, so it’s possible Velazquez could be needed for a few starts. He holds a 2.76 ERA and 28/10 K/BB ratio over 45 2/3 innings across 26 appearances — two starts — for Boston this season.
MLB Betting Trends
Texas
The Rangers are 0-5 in their last five games played at Fenway Park and 0-4 in their last four meetings with the Red Sox.
Boston
The Red Sox are 63-28 in their last 91 games overall.
Prediction:
The Rangers are 7-0 in Gallardo’s last seven road starts, are 8-0 in his last eight outings against the rest of the American League East, and are 11-1 in his last 12 outings when facing a team with a winning record. Despite their struggles in Boston, I’m going to take a flier on the Rangers tonight.
The Pick: Texas Rangers +170
