Nunez leads Red Sox offense
Eduardo Nunez hit a 3-run homer in the second inning Tuesday night to help send Boston to an 11-4 win at the Nationals, its second straight win in the series. Nunez also had a double in four at-bats. Mookie Betts was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run, while J.D. Martinez was 2-for-5 with his MLB-leading 26th home run plus two runs scored and four RBIs. Xander Bogaerts finished 2-for-3 with a 3-run home run and two walks. Brandon Workman threw one perfect inning with two strikeouts to earn the win.
Roark hit hard again
Tanner Roark struggled again on the mound for Washington as he was shelled for nine earned runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts and two walks over seven innings to take the loss. Trea Turner finished 2-for-5 at the plate, while Bryce Harper went 1-for-3 with a double plus a walk and a run. Mark Reynolds was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Pedro Severino was 1-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk, while Brian Goodwin added a pinch-hit solo home run.
Eduardo Rodriguez (9-3, 4.11 ERA) gets the start today for Boston, while Washington will go with Erick Fedde (1-3, 6.00).
MLB Betting Trends
Boston
The Red Sox are 41-12 in their last 53 interleague games. Boston is 22-8 in its last 30 Wednesday games.
Washington
The under is 23-7 in the Nationals’ last 30 interleague games. Washington is 5-16 in its last 21 games overall.
Prediction:
Washington has struggled the last several weeks and Fedde seems like the kind of inexperienced pitcher Boston will feast on. Rodriguez hasn’t been all that sharp recently, but can often get by due to plenty of run support when he isn’t at his best. I think Boston wins again today to record the sweep.
