deGrom scratched, will start today
Jacob deGrom was expected to start Friday's game for the Mets, but was pushed back a day due to a family issue. He enters in the midst of a stellar season, with a 5-3 record a 1.69 ERA. In his absence, the Mets were dominated 8-2 as the Marlins established an early six-run lead. Corey Oswalt suffered the loss as he allowed six earned runs on six hits with one strikeout and two walks over 2 2/3 innings. Brandon Nimmo was 1-for-4 with a walk from the leadoff spot. Jose Bautista finished 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and a run. Amed Rosario was 0-for-1, but walked three times.
Alcantara wins first MLB start
Sandy Alcantara, Miami's top pitching prospect who came over from the Cardinals in the Marcell Ozuna trade, made his first start with the Marlins and threw five innings to post the win. He had made relief appeareances with St. Louis last year, but this was his first MLB start. Alcantara gave up one earned run on three hits with two strikeouts and five walks over five innings. Starlin Castro went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. J.T. Riddle finished 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Lewis Brinson ended the night 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and three RBIs.
Countering deGrom for Miami today will bePablo Lopez (0-0, 0.00), making his MLB debut.
MLB Betting Trends
The Mets are 2-8 in their last 10 Saturday games. New York is 15-38 in its last 53 games overall.
The over is 8-3-1 in the last 11 Marlins games. Miami is 2-5 in its last seven Saturday games.
This seems like a mismatch in every sense. While deGrom hasn't gotten run support in way too many starts this season, he should be just fine today. New York should get to the 22-year-old Lopez plenty enough as deGrom often only requires a run or two.
