Dodgers have two 3-run innings
After the Cubs took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, Los Angeles responded with back-to-back 3-run innings to take a commanding 6-1 advantage and eventually held on for a 7-5 victory. Joc Pederson finished 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and two walks. Max Muncy was 1-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs. Justin Turner went 2-for-3 with a walk. Cody Bellinger ended his night 2-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs. Enrique Hernandez finished 1-for-3 with a run, an RBI and two walks. Yasmani Grandal went 1-for-4 with a double, a walk and two RBIs. Yasiel Puig was 3-for-5. Alex Wood picked up the win as he gave up three earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and no walks over seven innings. Kenley Jansen threw the final 1 1/3 innings for his 21st save, allowing one hit while striking out one.
Hendricks hit hard in defeat
Chicago starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks only lasted 2 2/3 innings Wednesday night as he surrendered six earned runs on eight hits with one strikeout and two walks. Jason Heyward helped pace the offense by going 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run and an RBI. Javier Baez was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs. Willson Contreras had a big night by going 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and four RBIs. Ian Happ went 2-for-4 with a run.
MLB Betting Trends
The Cubs are 1-7 in their last eight road games. Chicago is 38-14 in its last 52 Thursday games.
The Dodgers are 7-2 in their last nine home games. Los Angeles is 27-10 in its last 37 games.
Chicago returned to struggling last night after ending its losing skid one day earlier. Now it gets to face Kershaw, who hasn't been the same pitcher of old yet this season. He was limited to 55 pitches in his first start off the DL at the Mets last time out and struggled some, but the encouraging sign is his velocity was up to 91-92 MPH. I'd imagine he provides a quality start today and if so, will have a fantastic chance to win with the Cubs turning to an often-erratic Quintana. I'm siding with the favored hosts here and you can decide on your own if you want to go with the extra risk of a run line bet.
