Dozier grand slam propels Royals
A five-run ninth inning highlighted by a Hunter Dozier grand slam lifted Kansas City to an 8-6 victory Tuesday night at Cleveland. It was the only hit for Dozier in five at-bats. Whit Merrifield finished 2-for-5 with a double, a run and two RBIs. Martin Maldonado ended the contest 2-for-4 with a double and two runs. Kevin McCarthy picked up the win in relief as he struck out one in a perfect inning of work. Ian Kennedy allowed one hit and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning to notch the save. Jakob Junis gets the start tonight as he enters with a 4-6 record, 5.18 ERA and 1.45 WHIP with 84 strikeouts over 88 2/3 innings.
Indians blow it in ninth
Cleveland surrendered five runs in the top of the ninth inning Tuesday night at home in an 8-6 defeat versus Kansas City. Carlos Santana helped lead the Indians offense as he went 1-for-4 with a solo home run plus a walk. Mike Freeman went 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Tyler Naquin ended the contest 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Roberto Perez was 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Brad Hand suffered the loss as he surrendered five earned runs on five hits without retiring a batter. Trevor Bauer will start tonight as he comes in with a 5-6 record, 3.69 ERA and 1.18 WHIP with 122 strikeouts over 112 1/3 innings.
