Rangers’ Colon allows three runs in victory over Royals
Bartolo Colon beat the Royals by allowing three runs in six innings on Monday. Colon allowed nine hits and struck out just one, but that was good enough. He hasn’t struck out more than four batters in any of his last 11 starts now, and he’s barely keeping it together with a 4.91 ERA overall.
Twins’ Berrios holds Red Sox to one run in last start
Jose Berrios pitched 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball Tuesday against the Red Sox. Berrios left with a one-run lead, but the Red Sox tied the game in the eighth before going on to lose, denying Berrios the win. The 24-year-old has had a pretty easy schedule this season, and this is just his second quality start against a top-scoring opponent, with the other coming against the Indians back when they were still cold in April. He’s been pretty great since his late April-early May rough spell, though, and this makes six starts in seven in which he’s allowed two runs or fewer.
MLB Betting Trends
Texas
The Rangers have now won five of their last seven games against the Twins following their victory on Saturday.
Minnesota
The Twins are 5-2 in Berrios’ last seven starts but are just 1-4 in his last five outings against the American League West.
Prediction:
Winners of seven in a row and five consecutive on the road, the Rangers are officially hot. While their pitching hasn’t necessarily been stout, their bats are hot and even though they’re facing Berrios, I expect them to contend again today.
The Pick: Texas Rangers +1.5
