Leake turns in stellar start
Although Boston had two key components out of the lineup in Mookie Betts and Xander Bogaerts, nothing can be taken away from the best start of the season out of Mike Leake. He tossed eight shutout innings Saturday night in a 7-2 victory at Fenway Park, allowing only three hits while striking out five and walking two. Both of the Red Sox runs were scored in the ninth inning. Mitch Haniger helped lead the offense as he went 2-for-5 with two doubles, a run and three RBIs. Nelson Cruz finished 3-for-4 with a walk and a pair of runs. Kyle Seager was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Guillermo Heredia ended the night 2-for-5 with a run. Chris Hermann went 2-for-3 with two walks and a run.
Martinez has two-hit night
J.D. Martinez had a pair of hits in Saturday night’s loss and scored a run, improving his batting average to .326 and on-base percentage of .394. Mitch Moreland finished the night 2-for-4 with a triple, a run and an RBI. Eduardo Rodriguez took the loss as he allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks over four innings.
Marco Gonzales (7-4, 3.80 ERA) will start today for the M’s, while Red Sox ace left Chris Sale (6-4, 2.74) will be on the hill for the hosts.
MLB Betting Trends
Seattle
The over is 11-5-1 in the last 17 games overall. The under is 7-1 in Gonzales’ last eight starts.
Boston
The Red Sox are 10-3 in their last 13 Sunday games. The over is 6-2 in the last eight Boston games vs. the AL West.
Prediction
I’d be surprised if Sale gives up more than two runs here as he has been on a roll lately. Even in a ballpark designed for hitting, Sale has the strikeout rate and arsenal to flourish. Meanwhile, Gonzales has done a good job in most of his starts the last couple months pitching into the sixth and seventh innings while keeping Seattle in games. With Sale being his usual self, Gonzales should have some leeway for under bettors. I like this game to stay low-scoring with two solid pitchers on the mound and the Boston offense a bit banged up.
