Blue Jays fall in 10 innings
Toronto allowed a two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th inning at Boston Friday night as it fell by a count of 7-5. Randal Grichuk paced the Blue Jays offense as he finished 3-for-4 with a home run, a walk and three RBIs. Eric Sogard finished 4-for-6 with a run. Freddy Galvis went 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Jordan Romano suffered the loss as he allowed two earned runs on one hit with five strikeouts and one walk over 1 2/3 innings. Derek Law will be the opener for Toronto today as he enters with an 0-1 record, 5.16 ERA and 1.59 WHIP with 26 strikeouts over 22 2/3 innings.
Vazquez wins it in 10th
Christian Vazquez drilled a game-winning two-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning Friday night to lift Boston to a 7-5 home win over Toronto. Vazquez entered the game off the bench and went 1-for-2 with the 2-run homer. Andrew Benintendi finished 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs and an RBI. J.D. Martinez ended the contest 3-for-5 with an RBI. Brandon Workman picked up the win in relief as he walked two and struck out two in a scoreless frame. Brian Johnson will start this afternoon for the Red Sox as he comes in with a 1-1 record, 10.00 ERA and 2.67 WHIP with nine strikeouts over nine innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Toronto
The Blue Jays are 16-37 in their last 53 games overall. Toronto is 0-7 in its last seven Saturday games.
Boston
The Red Sox are 8-1 in their last nine games overall. Boston is 9-2 in the last 11 Johnson home starts.
Prediction:
Neither pitching situation is much to write home about here, but Johnson at least has a track record of being a reliable starting pitcher when the Red Sox have needed him in the past. Now is not the time to fade Boston at home against a poor team. The Blue Jays blew their chance last night and I think they struggle today as Johnson is better than his small sample size numbers suggest.
