Dodgers’ Hill strikes out 10 in last rehab start
Rich Hill (blister) allowed four hits and two unearned runs over 4 2/3 innings Thursday in a rehab start for High-A Rancho Cucamonga. The left-hander registered 10 strikeouts over 75 pitches. Beat writer Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register expects Hill to return to the Dodgers’ starting rotation next week during the team’s trip to Wrigley Field. A blister has sidelined the veteran since May 20.
Cubs’ Montgomery stellar in tough-luck loss vs. Brewers
Mike Montgomery gave up two hits and one run over six innings Wednesday in the Cubs’ loss to Milwaukee. Montgomery registered four strikeouts and one walk over 79 pitches. The left-hander’s lone blemish came in the third inning when he served up a solo home run to Lorenzo Cain. Montgomery deserved to win but didn’t receive any run support from the Cubs, who were held to six hits in Wednesday’s shutout loss. The 28-year-old has been brilliant since his move to the starting rotation, compiling a stellar 1.14 ERA with 14 strikeouts and only three walks over 23 2/3 innings. He’ll take a 2-2 record into his next outing Tuesday against the Dodgers.
