White Sox split with Yankees
The White Sox have been trying to push toward a winning record, but haven’t quite been able to get on a big winning streak. They are coming off a four-game split at home with the Yankees. Chicago is 34-36 on the season, 14-19 on the road and 35-34 with the under. The Sox are sending Ivan Nova to the mound today. He is 3-5 on the season with a 6.28 ERA.
Chicago hasn’t fared to well at the plate or on the mound this season. They average just 4.31 runs per game while hitting. 254. On the mound, Chicago has a 5.00 ERA with a 1.44 team WHIP. Jose Abreu is leading the team with 19 doubles, 17 home runs and 54 RBI while Yoan Moncada is adding 13 doubles, 12 home runs and 39 RBI.
Cubs looking to get on track
Chicago is coming off a 7-game road trip against the Rockies and Dodgers where it went just 2-5. The Cubs are now 39-32 on the season, 24-11 at home and 37-33 with the over. Chicago has Cole Hamels taking the mound today. He is 6-2 on the year with a 2.98 ERA.
The Cubs are solid on the mound, posting just a 3.89 team ERA right now with a 1.32 WHIP. At the plate, Chicago is pretty formidable as well. They are averaging 5.11 runs per game while hitting .252 as a team. Anthony Rizzo has been leading the team with 11 doubles, 19 home runs and 51 RBI while Javier Baez is adding 18 doubles, 17 home runs and 46 RBI.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago White Sox
The White Sox are just 16-37 in their last 53 interleague games and 2-6 in their last eight road games.
Chicago Cubs
The Cubs are 7-1 in their last eight interleague home games and 20-8 in their last 28 home games overall.
Prediction:
The Sox have Nova on the mound today and he has given up four runs in each of his last three starts. Two of those starts were against poor hitting teams like the Royals and Indians. I would expect Chicago to be able to make him pay even more for any mistakes he may throw. Hamels has been pretty dialed in the last few weeks. After a poor showing at Houston, he has three straight starts without allowing an earned run. That spans 22 innings. At home, I expect Hamels to be able to work through the majority of the White Sox lineup and avoid big damage from their best bats.
MLB Prediction: Chicago Cubs -1.5 (-120)
