Renfroe hits three HRs in 12-inning win
Hunter Renfroe cranked three home runs Friday night as San Diego downed host Colorado by a count of 16-12 in 12 innings. Renfroe hit his third homer, a two-run shot, in the top of the 12th to extend the Padres’ lead to 15-11. He finished the night 4-for-7 with the three home runs, four runs scored and five RBIs. Manny Machado went 4-for-7 with a home run, a double, four runs and two RBIs. Fernando Tatis Jr. was 3-for-6 with a triple, a walk, two runs and two RBIs. Ian Kinsler finished 3-for-5 with two walks and a run. Craig Stammen picked up the win in relief as he gave up one hit and struck out two in a scoreless inning of relief. Eric Lauer will start tonight for San Diego as he enters with a 5-5 record, 4.14 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with 57 strikeouts over 71 2/3 innings.
Rockies lose high-scoring extra-inning affair
Colorado dropped a 16-12 decision in 12 innings Friday night at home against San Diego to fall to 36-33 overall and 21-14 at home. The Rockies gave up one in the eighth inning and six in the ninth to blow an 11-4 lead before falling in extra innings. Ian Desmond helped pace the Colorado offense as he went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBIs off the bench. Charlie Blackmon ended the contest 4-for-7 with a solo home run, a double and three runs. David Dahl was 2-for-6 with a home run, a walk, two runs and four RBIs. Trevor Story finished 3-for-5 with a double and two runs before leaving the game with an injury in the eighth inning. Jairo Diaz took the loss as he surrendered five earned runs on five hits with no strikeouts or walks over one inning. German Marquez starts tonight for the Rockies as he comes in with a 6-3 record, 4.19 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with 95 strikeouts over 96 2/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The Padres are 1-4 in their last five road games. San Diego is 4-1 in the last five Lauer starts.
Colorado
The Rockies are 6-1 in their last seven versus the NL West. Colorado is 13-3 in the last 16 Marquez home starts.
Prediction:
Nolan Arenado should return to the lineup for the Rockies today after resting last night, while it seems as though Story will be good to go too. That’s enough for me as the duo crushes lefties at home, while Marquez has won way more often than not in his home starts. That is partly due to good run support, but he also knows how to pitch in his home ballpark and his stuff plays even in the thin air. Look for Colorado to get back on the winning side of the coin here.
