Phillies blow late lead
Philadelphia gave up eight runs over the last four innings Friday night including three in the bottom of the ninth in a 9-8 loss at Atlanta. Bryce Harper helped pace the Phillies offense as he went 1-for-5 with a 2-two home run. Scott Kingery was 3-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and two runs scored. Rhys Hoskins finished 1-for-3 with a home run, two walks and two RBIs. Hector Neris suffered the loss as he surrendered three earned runs on three hits over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one and walking one. Aaron Nola will start tonight for Philadelphia as he enters with a 6-1 record, 4.58 ERA and 1.49 WHIP with 86 strikeouts over 76 2/3 innings.
McCann wins it in ninth
Brian McCann drove in two with a single in the bottom of the ninth inning Friday night to finish off a 9-8 victory for host Atlanta over Philadelphia. The Braves trailed 7-2 in the seventh inning before rallying back. McCann finished 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Josh Donaldson went 1-for-5 with a solo home run. MLB Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 4-1 in their last five Saturday games. Philadelphia is 1-4 in its last five games.
Atlanta
The Braves are 7-0 in their last seven home games. Atlanta is 6-0 in the last six home meetings with the Phillies.
Prediction:
Atlanta is on a roll, but could suffer a letdown after expending so much energy rallying back in yesterday’s thriller. Nola hasn’t been himself so far this season, but was decent enough his last start and you would expect him to turn a corner at some point. Newcomb can be erratic with his control and might put some unneeded pressure on himself as he tries to prove himself as worthy of remaining in the rotation. I’m siding with the Phillies in this one.
