Red Sox’ Porcello takes tough loss to White Sox in last start
Rick Porcello allowed two earned runs over six innings, but took a loss against the White Sox on Sunday. Porcello didn’t pitch terribly in this one, but he was out-dueled by Reynaldo Lopez and took his third loss of the season against eight victories. He walked three and allowed five runners via hit, and he was able to strike out five. Porcello still owns a solid 3.54 ERA on the season, and will try to pick up his ninth victory against the Mariners on Friday.
Mariners’ Paxton strikes out 10 in win over Rays
James Paxton fanned 10 hitters over seven innings while allowing three runs in a 5-4 victory over the Rays on Sunday. Paxton ran into some trouble in the third and fourth innings, but for the most part, it was more dominance for the southpaw on Monday. He also didn’t walk anyone, and his strikeout-to-walk ratio is now up to an impressive 111/25. He’ll take a 3.02 ERA and 1.11 WHIP into his next scheduled start against the Red Sox on Friday.
MLB Betting Trends
Boston
The Red Sox have won eight of Porcello’s last 11 road starts and are 20-6 in his last 26 starts when he pitches the second game of a series.
Seattle
The Mariners are 8-2 in Paxton’s last 10 starts versus the American League East and are 4-1 in his last five starts overall.
Prediction:
Given the pitching matchup and the fact that the under has been a great bet when these two teams meet, surely plenty of bettors will line up to take the under. That said, the over is 5-1-1 in Porcello’s last seven starts, is 5-0-1 in his last six outings coming off four days of rest, and is 4-1 in his last five road starts when he faces a team with a winning record. On the other side, the over is 5-1 in Paxton’s last six starts and is 5-0 in his last five outings when coming off four days of rest.
