Royals down Tigers in Omaha
Kansas City secured a 7-3 victory over Detroit Thursday night at Omaha to improve to 22-46 overall and 14-23 in home games. Nicky Lopez paced the Royals offensively as he finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored. Martin Maldonado finished 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Whit Merrifield went 2-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs. Homer Bailey picked up the win as he threw six shutout innings with two hits allowed, six strikeouts and two walks. Ian Kennedy retired the last batter of the game for his sixth save. Brad Keller will start tonight for KC as he enters with a 3-8 record, 4.29 ERA and 1.38 WHIP with 58 strikeouts over 86 innings.
Twins double up M’s
Minnesota earned a 10-5 home victory Thursday against Seattle to move to 45-22 overall and 21-10 at home. The Twins scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break open a 1-1 game and then added three more runs the next inning. Nelson Cruz led Minnesota as he went 3-for-4 with a home run, a walk, two runs and three RBIs. Jorge Polanco finished 2-for-6 with two runs and an RBI. C.J. Cron was 1-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Ryne Harper picked up the win in relief as he gave up one hit with one strikeout and no walks over one inning. Kyle Gibson will start tonight for the Twins as he comes in with a 6-3 record, 4.14 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with 71 strikeouts over 67 1/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Kansas City
The Royals are 20-46 in their last 66 games. Kansas City is 1-5 in the last six Keller road starts.
Minnesota
The Twins are 5-0 in their last five Friday games. Minnesota is 36-15 in its last 51 games overall.
Prediction:
Gibson is generally reliable and I think he slows down a less than scary Royals offense. Keller pitches to contact and the Twins will certainly make a lot of it. I don’t see a great argument for KC here. Make the smart play and go with the Twins as big favorites.
