Taillon having up-and-down season
Pittsburgh starting pitcher Jameson Taillon enters today’s tilt with a 3-5 record and 4.08 ERA in 70 2/3 innings, striking out 67 and posting a WHIP of 1.20. He has shown flashes of being a superb pitcher such as on June 1 when he threw eight shutout innings at the Cardinals. But he was also lit up for six earned runs in six innings on May 22 at the Reds, so consistency is still an issue. The good news for Taillon is he has been pitching better over his last seven starts, with the implosion at Cincinnati the only time in that stretch where he has allowed more than three earned runs.
Greinke not yet in dominant form
Zack Greinke has been solid this season, posting a 5-4 record and 3.53 ERA in 79 innings with 83 strikeouts and a 1.10 WHIP. But it hasn’t always been easy as he’s only pitched a full seven innings once in his last nine starts. He is coming off a start at hitter’s haven Coors Field where he gave up four runs (three earned) on eight hits with five strikeouts and two walks over 5 2/3 innings of a 9-4 victory over the Rockies.
MLB Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The over is 8-3 in the last 11 Pittsburgh games on a Wednesday. The under is 7-4 in the last 11 Pirates games overall.
Arizona
The Diamondbacks are 0-8 in their last eight Wednesday games. Arizona is 21-6 in Greinke’s last 27 home starts.
Prediction:
There have been plenty of runs through the first two games of this series, but I’d imagine Taillon and Greinke keep it much more low-scoring today. Greinke always seems to get the job done at home and I don’t think this will be any different as the D-backs are playing fantastic baseball right now. Go with the favored hosts
