Nationals’ Roark pitches six innings in win over Rays
Tanner Roark yielded six hits and two runs over six innings Wednesday in Washington’s win over the Rays. Roark fanned four and walked one over 84 pitches. He also chipped in with a two-run single in the first inning. Roark encountered a couple of rough patches in this one, allowing a run on two hits in the fourth inning before serving up a solo shot to C.J. Cron in the fifth. Other than that, it was smooth sailing for the right-hander, who snapped a five-start winless streak with Wednesday’s victory. He’ll take a solid 3.56 ERA into his next outing against the Yankees.
Yankees’ Sabathia excellent over seven innings vs. Blue Jays
CC Sabathia limited the Blue Jays to two runs across seven innings of work Tuesday in the Yankees’ 7-2 win. Sabathia has yielded just one single and one walk before Teoscar Hernandez took him deep with one out in the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie. The big lefty served up another solo shot to Kevin Pillar in the next frame, but not before the Yankees scored four runs for him to provide a cushion. Sabathia had been in a funk over the last month so this showing was nice to see. He’ll try to keep it going next week in home starts versus the Nationals and Rays.
MLB Betting Trends
Washington
The Nationals are 25-11 in their last 36 games overall and are 13-4 in their last 17 games versus a team with a winning record.
New York
The Yankees have won nine of their last 11 interleague games and are a perfect 4-0 in their last four games following an off day.
Prediction:
This is a good spot to take a flier on the underdog. The Yankees’ dangerous offense has gone silent recently, generating a season-low with three hits in their game Sunday night versus the Mets. They’re also hitting just .176 in their last four games overall and while Roark isn’t a dominant force, he’s more than capable of giving the Nationals an opportunity to pull one out tonight.
The Pick: Washington Nationals +150
