Rangers unable to complete comeback vs. Astros
Texas lost for a fourth straight day at home against Houston Sunday afternoon, falling behind 6-0 early before eventually tying the score at 6-6 in the fifth. The Astros took the lead again in the seventh at 7-6, but the Rangers scored a run of their own in the eighth to even it up again. Houston once again scored a run in the ninth and held on for the 8-7 win as Texas did not have a last rally attempt left. Shin Soo-Choo had a single and two RBIs from the top of the order. Delino DeShields finished 3-for-5. Nomar Mazara was 2-for-5 with a double and a run. Adrian Beltre finished 3-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. Isiah Kiner-Falefa went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs. Rougned Odor was 2-for-4 with two runs. Carlos Perez went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and two RBIs. Ronald Guzman finished 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Keone Kela took the loss in relief as he allowed one earned run on no hits with two strikeouts and two walks in one inning.
Dodgers roll in series finale
Los Angeles took two out of three at home against the Braves over the weekend including Sunday’s 7-2 finale win. Max Muncy finished 1-for-2 with a home run, two walks and two RBIs to help pace the LA offense. Enrique Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Logan Forsythe was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, two runs and two RBIs. Ross Stripling allowed two earned runs on four hits with six strikeouts and no walks over 6 2/3 innings to record the win.
Bartolo Colon (3-3, 4.16 ERA) will start today for the Rangers, while LA is turning to Caleb Ferguson (0-0, 21.60).
MLB Betting Trends
Texas
The Rangers are 7-2 in their last nine interleague road games. The under is 7-1 in the last eight meetings.
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are 7-2 in their last nine overall. Los Angeles is 17-6 in its last 23 interleague games.
Prediction:
Colon has mostly been reliable for Texas this season, although he has hit a rough patch in two of his last four starts at the ripe old age of 45. He is twice the age of Ferguson, who doesn’t turn 22 until July 2. Ferguson struggled mightily in his MLB debut and I am going to fade him as such a large favorite. As long as Colon can give a typical start where he works into the sixth or seventh inning, I like the Rangers’ chances to pull off the upset here.
