Suter providing consistency each outing
Milwaukee will go with Brent Suter on the mound today and he comes in with a 5-4 record plus a 4.55 ERA. His ERA has dropped consistently over his last four starts, the latest being in a 6-1 loss at the White Sox. He surrendered two earned runs on three hits with six strikeouts and two walks over five innings. He has allowed more than three runs only once in his last eight starts and that came at Coors Field on May 12 when he allowed four earned runs in five innings in a 4-0 loss at Colorado.
Arrieta makes first start since accountability interview
Following a 6-1 loss at San Francisco on Sunday that completed a three-game sweep, Phillies starter Jake Arrieta did not hold back in his post-game interview as he talked about how everyone needed to be better in a variety of areas from the top of the organization on down. Philadelphia only scored one run in the series at the Giants before winning the series opener at the Cubs, but then proceeded to lose the next two. Arrieta surrendered five earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and no walks over six innings of work to take the loss. He was coming off back-to-back starts in which he did not allow an earned run over 13 2/3 innings. Arrieta is 5-3 on the season with a 2.66 ERA, although his strikeout rate is way down with 44 K’s in 64 1/3 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Milwaukee
The Brewers are 4-1 in their last five Saturday games. Milwaukee is 5-1 in Suter’s last six Saturday starts.
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 16-5 in their last 21 home games vs. a left-handed starter. Philadelphia is 6-2 in its last eight Saturday games.
Prediction:
Arrieta spoke boldly after his last start and although the outcomes this week have been up and down, I believe with him on the mound the Phillies will have a heightened focus. I’m going with the Phillies to get the job done here. Also pay attention to the lineup before the game because Rhys Hoskins (jaw) might make his return after a quick stint on the DL.
