Orioles’ Hess allows one run in loss to Nationals
David Hess allowed just one run in six innings and took a tough-luck loss to the Nationals on Wednesday. He made one mistake — Bryce Harper slapped him with a solo home run — and that was all it took to lose the ballgame as he was outdueled by Nationals ace Max Scherzer. Hess surrendered four hits and one walk while fanning two batters in the quality start. The 24-year-old rookie has now made four starts in the majors and three of them were quality, leaving him with a 2-2 record, 3.47 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. On the downside, he’s notched just 12 punchouts in 23 1/3 innings, calling into question his viability as a major league starter unless he can miss more bats moving forward.
Blue Jays’ Garcia knocked around by Tigers in last start
Jaime Garcia was knocked around in Friday’s loss to the Tigers, surrendering four runs on seven hits in just 1 2/3 innings. Garcia struck out one and didn’t walk a batter in the ugly outing. All of the damage came in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run triple from JaCoby Jones. The left-hander now sits at 2-4 on the season and owns a horrifying 6.08 ERA and 1.61 WHIP. He should be nowhere near fantasy lineups for Thursday’s matchup against the Orioles.
MLB Betting Trends
Baltimore
The Orioles have lost 60 of their last 83 games overall and are just 14-38 in their last 52 road games.
Toronto
The Blue Jays have dropped 10 of their last 11 games at home and are 0-7 in their last seven divisional games.
Prediction:
These two teams are struggling mightily right now so I’m going to avoid the side. Despite the bats on both sides and the fact that the Rogers Centre is a hitter’s park, the under has been a fantastic play for bettors in this series. The under is 24-5-1 in the last 30 meetings between these two teams and has cashed in 13 of the last 16 games between these two teams in Toronto.
The Pick: Orioles/Blue Jays under 9.5
