Nola holds Dodgers to two hits over seven innings in last start
Aaron Nola allowed just one run on two hits over seven innings in Thursday’s 2-1 win over the Dodgers. Wonderful performance from Nola, who did not allow his first hit until Yasiel Puig came up with a leadoff double to start the fifth inning. Kike Hernandez would follow two batters later with an RBI single. Outside of that small spot of trouble, smooth sailing.
Nola finished his evening’s work having struck out seven and walked one. He’s now allowed one or no runs in five of his last six starts and is pitching to a 2.18 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 74/18 K/BB ratio (78 1/3 innings) for the season as a whole. He’ll try to keep the hot hand in a road showdown with the Cubs next time out.
Cubs’ Quintana pitches six scoreless innings in win over Mets
Jose Quintana pitched six scoreless innings Thursday as the Cubs bested the Mets 5-1. The good Jose Quintana showed up right on schedule, one start after a subpar outing against the Giants. That’s the way it’s been for the southpaw most of the year, following a good start with a bad one and following that one with another good one, and so on.
Overall, he’s got a 4.30 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 11 starts, numbers he’ll carry into Wednesday’s start against the Phillies. It’s one in which he’ll hope to buck the trend and possibly put together two strong showings in a row.
MLB Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The Phillies have won seven of Nola’s last eight starts but have dropped seven of his last nine road starts.
Chicago
The Cubs have won 14 of Quintana’s last 20 starts overall and are 10-3 in his last 13 outings at Wrigley Field.
Prediction:
The under has been a tremendous bet when Nola takes the mound for the Phillies. The under is 18-7-3 in Nola’s last 28 starts, is 12-3-1 in his last 16 outings versus the National League Central, and is 5-0 in his last five road starts. This is a very good pitching matchup and I expect another low-scoring game after the under cashed in Tuesday night’s 6-1 win for the Phillies.
The Pick: Phillies/Cubs under
