Diamondbacks’ Buchholz records first win, beats Marlins
Clay Buchholz picked up his first win since the 2016 season after allowing one run in seven innings Friday against the Marlins. No one was at all interested in Buchholz on anything more than a minor league deal after elbow surgery, but he’s showing he has something left with his 1.50 ERA through three starts for Arizona. He doesn’t project to have any mixed-league value going forward, but he could remain decent enough to stick in the Diamondbacks rotation for the long haul.
Giants’ Stratton pitches six scoreless innings in win
Chris Stratton blanked the Phillies for six innings in the Giants’ 4-0 victory Friday. Easily his best effort in six weeks. Stratton had allowed 24 earned runs over 27 innings in his previous six starts. Tonight, he gave up just four hits, all of them singles. Overall, Stratton is 7-4 with a 4.50 ERA. He doesn’t project well for the rest of the year.
MLB Betting Trends
Arizona
The Diamondbacks have dropped seven straight games played on Wednesday.
San Francisco
The Giants are 4-0 in Stratton’s last four starts and have won 10 of his last 11 outings at AT&T Park.
Prediction:
Stratton isn’t an talent but he’s given the Giants an opportunity to win most of his starts this season. Not only is the club 10-1 in his last 11 home starts and 4-0 in his last four outings overall, they’re also 4-1 in his last five starts when he faces the rest of the National League West. Finally, they’re 5-1 when Stratton starts against a team with a winning record. He just needs some run support.
The Pick: San Francisco Giants -145
