Reds’ Castillo knocked around in road loss to Diamondbacks
Luis Castillo coughed up five runs — four earned — on four hits and three walks and six strikeouts over five innings in a loss at Arizona on Tuesday. Castillo managed to throw just 57 of his 90 pitches for strikes and his defense didn’t help him out, either. The Dominican right hander also uncorked a wild pitch while turning in a subpar game score of 44. The four earned runs allowed were his most since April 27, a span of six outings, so consider this an anomaly. Castillo has actually been pitching fairly well lately for the subpar Reds and he remains useful in deeper NL-only fantasy formats. He’ll try to get back into the win column in his next scheduled start this weekend versus the Padres.
Padres’ Ross merely okay in start vs. Marlins
Tyson Ross allowed three earned runs, six hits and a walk with four strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Marlins on Tuesday. Ross threw 55 of his 87 pitches for strikes for his shortest start since April 25 in Colorado, and a season low at home. The good news is that he continues to keep the ball in the park, yielding just five homers through 65 2/3 innings across 11 starts this season. He hasn’t been great, but he hasn’t been terrible, either. Ross is a useful fantasy option in most NL-only formats. His next assignment is scheduled for Sunday against the Reds.
MLB Betting Trends
Cincinnati
The Reds have dropped four of their last five meetings with the Padres when the game is played at Petco Park.
San Diego
The Padres are a perfect 4-0 in Ross’ last four starts versus the Reds.
Prediction:
The game was high-scoring last night because you had two bad pitchers on the mound and the Padres’ offense got hot for a few innings. Tonight should be different, with the under cashing in eight of Ross’ last 10 starts and going 24-11-4 in his last 39 home outings. Castillo is coming off a poor performance in his last start but he should be much better this evening against a banged-up, light-hitting Padres offense. I like the under.
The Pick: Reds/Padres under 7.5
