Alonso homers twice in defeat
New York allowed four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday night in a 9-8 loss at Los Angeles. Edwin Diaz took the loss as he surrendered four earned runs on five hits in one-third of an inning, striking out none and walking one. Pete Alonso paced the offense as he went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs, two runs scored and four RBIs. Dominic Smith was 3-for-5 with a solo home run and three runs scored. Todd Frazier finished 2-for-5 with a double and two runs. Jason Vargas will be on the mound tonight for the Mets as he enters with a 1-2 record, 5.22 ERA and 1.57 WHIP with 23 strikeouts over 29 1/3 innings.
Dodgers rally in ninth
Los Angeles scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday night in a 9-8 victory over visiting New York. Alex Verdugo won it with a sacrifice fly that scored Cody Bellinger. Verdugo finished 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and two RBIs. Joc Pederson ended the contest 2-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and two runs. Corey Seager went 3-for-4 with a solo homer, two doubles and two runs. Max Muncy was 2-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and two runs. Scott Alexander threw one scoreless inning of relief for the win, giving up no hits with no strikeouts and one walk. MLB Betting Trends
The Mets are 8-2 in their last 10 Thursday games. New York is 5-18 in its last 23 road games.
The Dodgers are 22-8 in their last 30 games overall. Los Angeles is 4-0 in the last four Ryu starts.
Prediction:I don't trust Vargas against many teams at all, but against LA it seems almost hopeless. He is bound to give up some runs and he isn't likely to get much support as Ryu has been dealing all season. Consider the runline heavily. This contest has Dodgers win written all over it.
