Cardinals to start young phenom Reyes vs. Brewers
Alex Reyes (elbow) will make his season debut Wednesday against the Brewers, according to Craig Mish of Sirius XM. Reyes made quick work of his four minor league rehab starts, striking out 44 over 23 scoreless innings, and it was only a question of when, not if, he’d get into a major league game in the coming days.
With Reyes back and in fine form, the Cardinals’ rotation is suddenly stout with he, Jack Flaherty, Luke Weaver, Miles Mikolas and Michael Wacha and, when he returns, Carlos Martinez in tow. Reyes is surely owned in most competitive leagues, but if he’s available, correct that immediately, especially now with firm plans known.
Brewers’ Guerra gives up just two runs in no-decision
Junior Guerra gave up two runs over six innings Friday in a no-decision against the Mets. Guerra surrendered a solo homer to Amed Rosario in the third inning and another solo shot to Michael Conforto one inning later. He fanned three and walked none, so he was much more efficient that his last start against the Twins.
Guerra has been a nice surprise for the Brewers this season, posting a 2.98 ERA over nine starts. He’s allowed two earned runs or fewer in seven of them, so he’s been a useful matchup play in fantasy leagues. Up next is an NL Central showdown with the Cardinals.
MLB Betting Trends
St. Louis
The Cardinals are 36-16 in their last 52 games against the Brewers at Miller Park.
Milwaukee
The Brewers have won four of their last five games overall and are 6-1 in their last seven home games versus a right-handed starter.
Prediction:
Reyes is one of the top pitching prospects in baseball and breezed through his minor league rehab stint, consistently throwing in the high 90s while working on his offspeed pitches. Meanwhile, Guerra is a fly-ball pitcher that gives up plenty of hard contact but has pitched fairly well. The Cardinals have struggled offensively of late and own a high strikeout rate against right-handed pitching. With the under going 6-2-1 in the Cardinals’ last nine games and 17-3-1 in the Brewers’ last 21 home games versus a team with a winning road record, I’ll take the under.
The Pick: Cardinals/Brewers under 8.5
