Mets’ Vargas to start against Braves on short rest
Jason Vargas will start on short rest Wednesday against the Braves. Vargas threw just three innings Saturday versus the Brewers, allowing five runs, so the Mets will bump him up to start in place of the injured Noah Syndergaard. The veteran left-hander owns an ugly 10.62 ERA over his first five starts this season with New York.
Teheran gives up three runs in loss to Red Sox
Julio Teheran allowed three runs over six innings in a loss to the Red Sox on Friday. Teheran gave up solo homers to J.D. Martinez and Xander Bogaerts in the fourth inning and a go-ahead sacrifice fly to Andrew Benintendi in the fifth. This was his first loss since way back on April 9.
Teheran’s ERA sat at 3.14 after a win over the Rays earlier this month, but it’s now at 4.20 for the year. His next start comes against the Mets at home. Teheran has been tough to trust at SunTrust Park, but it’s a good matchup for him.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets have dropped six of their last seven meetings against the Braves.
Atlanta
The Braves are 4-1 in the last lat five home games and 13-5 in their last 18 contests versus the rest of the National League East.
Prediction:
For some reason, the Mets were a brief favorite but that made little sense and sports books have since updated their odds, making the Braves a heavy favorite. They should be. Teheran has had his issues but Vargas has been a gas can and is pitching on short rest. I love the Braves and am willing to pay the price.
The Pick: Atlanta Braves -165
