Reds’ Romano crushed by Rockies in last start
Sal Romano was tagged for five runs in 5 1/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Rockies. Romano’s rotation spot should be in danger; he’s now 2-6 with a 5.89 ERA and a 39/29 K/BB ratio in 55 innings. He might fit best as a middle reliever anyway.
Diamondbacks’ Corbin pitches seven strong innings in victory
Patrick Corbin pitched seven innings of one-run ball to defeat the A’s on Friday. It’s his first win since April 22, though that’s hardly his fault. Corbin’s velocity remained down for the fifth straight start, as he averaged 90 mph tonight and topped out at 92 mph, but it didn’t stop him from quieting Oakland’s bats. There’s still very good reason for concern about his velocity issues, even if he’s not supposed to be hurt. He’ll get the Reds next time out.
MLB Betting Trends
Cincinnati
The Reds have lost four of their last five games versus the Diamondbacks.
Arizona
The Diamondbacks have won five of Corbin’s last six starts versus the Reds.
Prediction:
Romano has not pitched well in his 11 starts this season, posting a 5.25 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 16% and a walk rate of 12%. This Arizona team has not hit well all season but it has found its bats in this series and not get the best pitching matchup of the series. Corbin, meanwhile, has pitched very well on a whole this season but has cooled off a little of late. Still, this is a matchup that the Diamondbacks should run away with and I’ll take them on the runline.
The Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks -1.5
