Strasburg strikes out 11 in win
Washington drew three straight walks including two with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth inning to take the lead for good in a 5-4 victory Tuesday night at Atlanta. Stephen Strasburg picked up the win as he allowed two earned runs on five hits with 11 strikeouts and two walks over seven innings. Sean Doolittle gave up one hit and struck out three in an inning of work to pick up his 10th save. Howie Kendrick helped pace the offense as he went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and two runs scored. Trea Turner was 3-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base. Kurt Suzuki ended the game 2-for-5 with a double, a run and an RBI. Anibal Sanchez starts tonight as he comes in with an 0-6 record, 5.10 ERA and 1.68 WHIP with 41 strikeouts over 42 2/3 innings.
Braves edged at home
Atlanta suffered a 5-4 home defeat Tuesday night versus Washington to drop to 30-25 overall and 14-13 at home. Austin Riley paced the Braves offense as he went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Josh Donaldson was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs. Nick Markakis went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Max Fried took the loss as he allowed four earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and three walks over 5 2/3 innings. MLB Betting Trends
The Nationals are 1-5 in the last six Sanchez starts. Washington is 1-8 in its last nine games versus a right-handed starter.
The Braves are 5-0 in their last five games following a loss. Atlanta is 5-1 in the last six Gausman starts.
Gausman has been pitching well of late and Washington has struggled with right-handed pitching all season. With Sanchez not able to find his form and the Nationals bullpen being a nearly complete disaster, it's hard not to love Atlanta in this spot. Look for the Braves to boucne back with a home win.
