Padres squeak out win
San Diego bounced back from a brief 2-game losing streak on Tuesday night when it picked up a 5-4 win at New York. The Padres are 29-26 on the season, 15-12 on the road and 28-25 with the under. San Diego is sending Chris Paddack to the mound today. He is 4-2 on the season with a 1.93 ERA.
The Padres put up four runs in the first inning on a solid pitcher and held on from there. Manny Machado had a RBI single to get the scoring going in the first and Eric Hosmer followed up with a three-run home run. Hosmer now has nine home runs on the season. Eric Lauer pitched 5.1 innings and allowed just one run with four strikeouts to get his fourth win of the season. Kirby Yates recorded his 21th save of the year already by pitching a scoreless ninth.
Yankees take the loss
New York lost for the second time in three games on Tuesday night in the 5-4 loss to the Padres. New York is now 35-19 on the season, 18-11 at home and 29-23 with the over. The Yankees have James Paxton getting the start for them this afternoon. He is 3-2 on the season with a 3.11 ERA.
Masahiro Tanaka was surprisingly beat up on Tuesday, giving up four runs in the first inning and allowing five over his six innings of work. Tanaka took his fourth loss of the year. At the plate, Gary Sanchez continued his great 2019 season, knocking out his 17th home run of the year in the loss. DJ LeMahieu drove in two of the four runs for New York.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The Padres are 9-2 in their last 11 Wednesday games and 11-21 in their last 32 interleague road games.
New York
The Yankees are 9-3 in their last 12 against winning teams and 91-44 in their last 135 home games.
Prediction:
Paddack has been great for San Diego, as he has had a sub-2.00 ERA for over a month now. He has just 11 walks with 56 strikeouts. Paxton has been pretty good as well, but he has struggled to get deep into games. He has pitched less than six innings in five of his seven starts. I think Paddack will be able to handle himself, even against this tough New York lineup. The Padres showed they can hold back the Yankees at the plate while doing enough at the plate against some pretty good pitching. I like their chances this afternoon.
MLB Prediction: San Diego Padres +130
