Villanueva leads charge
San Diego third baseman Christian Villanueva hit a pair of home runs Saturday night, giving him 14 on the season, to lead the way to a 7-5 victory at the Dodgers. His first homer tied the score at 5-5 in the top of the sixth inning, while his second came in the eighth as an insurance run to up the lead to 7-5. Freddy Galvis hit a two-run homer in the win, while A.J. Ellis added two hits including a solo home run. Craig Stammen threw 1 2/3 innings of spotless baseball with a strikeout to earn the win. Brad Hand recorded his 16th save.
Taylor, Turner homer in loss
Leadoff hitter Chris Taylor finished 2-for-4 with a home run and a double Saturday, while teammate Justin Turner also hit a homer. Joc Pederson and Logan Forsythe both had a single and an RBI. Matt Kemp and Yasmani Grandal each had a hit and scored a run. Alex Wood allowed five earned runs in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss.
Matt Strahm (0-2, 4.91 ERA) starts today for San Diego, while LA will turn to rookie Walker Buehler (2-1, 2.38 ERA).
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The Padres are 4-11 in their last 15 games following a win. San Diego is 22-53 in its last 75 Sunday games.
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are 7-2 in their last nine games overall. The over is 21-8-2 in the last 31 meetings.
Prediction:
I can’t trust San Diego with Strahm on the mound being backed by an offense that has struggled much of the season. The Padres got it rolling offensively last night, but are unlikely to duplicate that performance against Buehler.
