Orioles on a win streak
The Orioles picked up a 2-0 win over the Rays on Friday to win their second straight game. Baltimore seeks its first 3-game win streak since May 12. The Orioles are 17-34 overall and 7-21 on the road. Baltimore is putting up 3.98 runs per game this season while allowing 5.35 per contest.
Andrew Cashner will get the start for the Orioles on Saturday. He has started 10 games this season and has a 2-5 record with a 4.72 ERA and a 1.55 WHIP. Cashner has pitched 55.1 innings on the year and has 50 strikeouts with 27 walks.
Rays in a funk
The Rays have lost four of their last five following Friday’s 2-0 loss. They have been held to two runs or less in all four losses. Tampa is now 23-26 overall and 9-13 at home. The Rays are putting up 4.20 runs per game this year while allowing 4.47 per contest.
The Rays are having Ryne Stanek start today’s game. They are sticking with the reliever in the starting role idea, as Stanek has pitched six times this year and has a total of five innings on the mound. Over those five innings, Stanek has allowed three runs with three walks and eight strikeouts.
MLB Betting Trends
Baltimore
Baltimore is just 2-6 in Cashner’s last eight starts and 2-7 in their last nine games on astroturf. The Orioles are also 8-20 in their last Saturday games.
Tampa
The Rays are 5-1 in their last six Saturday games and 11-5 in their last 16 games against a starter with a WHIP over 1.30.
Prediction:
The Rays are going with an odd pitching routine by having their starter pitch just an inning or a little more. While it resulted in a loss on Friday, that wasn’t because the pitching was poor. Tampa just struggled at the plate. I don’t think the Rays will have trouble today against Cashner. I expect the Rays to bounce back this afternoon.
The Pick: Tampa Bay Rays -140
