Orioles struggling to string wins together
The Orioles are coming off a 9-3 win at Chicago on Thursday to salvage a series split, but they have not been able to string together back-to-back wins in some time. The Orioles are 16-34 overall and 6-21 on the road. Baltimore is putting up 4.02 runs per game this season while allowing 5.46 per contest.
David Hess is slated to start for the Orioles tonight. He has appeared in two games this season and has a 6.75 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP. Over 10.2 innings of work, Hess has seven strikeouts with two walks.
Rays end losing streak
Tampa put an end to a 3-game losing streak on Thursday with a 6-3 win over Boston. The Rays were really rolling along before the losing streak and still have won seven of their last 10. Tampa is now 23-25 overall and 9-12 at home. The Rays are putting up 4.29 runs per game this year while allowing 4.52 per contest.
Tampa is once again going to start Sergio Romo for probably an inning or a little more today. He started two games against the Angels last week and pitched 2.1 scoreless innings over the two starts. Romo has a 4.34 ERA this season with a 1.45 WHIP. He has 26 strikeouts and nine walks over 18.2 innings of work this year.
MLB Betting Trends
Baltimore
The Orioles are just 13-38 in their last 51 road games and 1-7 in their last eight games on astroturf. They also are 2-8 in their last 10 road games against a team with a losing home record.
Tampa
The Rays have won eight of their last 11 series openers and five of their last six games following a win. They also have won four of their last five Friday games.
Prediction:
Tampa continues this experiment with Romo, which is interesting. It got them a 1-1 record in two games against the Angels. I think it will work just fine against Baltimore tonight because the Orioles aren’t a good team in general. The Tampa hitting should be able to light up Hess and the Rays pitching should be able to limit the damage the Orioles hitters will do.
The Pick: Tampa Bay Rays -150
