Marquez brilliant in pitcher’s duel
Colorado starter German Marquez entered Monday night’s contest with a 5.15 ERA, but dopped to 4.62 by the time his night was finished. Marquez allowed one earned run on two hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Wade Davis pitched the nine inning for his 17th save. Los Angeles struck first on a Max Muncy home run, his fifth of the season. The Rockies responded in the top half of the fifth with a solo home run off the bat of Gerardo Parra to even the score at 1-1. It remained that way until the eighth inning when Carlos Gonzalez registered what proved to be the game-winning RBI single in a pinch-hit role.
Chad Bettis (4-1, 3.27 ERA) starts tonight for Colorado.
Buehler doesn’t get run support
Dodgers rookie starter Walker Buehler was very strong again as he only allowed the Parra home run through seven innings of work. He gave up two total hits, struck out five and walked two. The Muncy home run gave LA a brief advantage, but Buehler’s one mistake the next frame was deposited into the seats. Pedro Baez suffered the loss as he gave up a run in relief, walking one and striking out one in 0 2/3 innings. Matt Kemp finished 2-for-4 with a double to help pace the Dodgers. Muncy also walked twice in addition to his home run.
Los Angeles will turn to Brock Stewart (0-0, 3.18 ERA) for tonight’s start.
MLB Betting Trends
Colorado
The Rockies are 6-2 in the last eight meetings. Colorado is 9-3 in its last 12 road games.
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are 38-18 in their last 56 games on a Tuesday. The under is 8-2 in the last 10 LA games on a Tuesday.
Prediction:
It’s hard to trust Los Angeles right now, but it did go on a four-game win streak with quality victories at Washington prior to Monday’s loss. The travel across the country also didn’t help. Being more settled in should help the Dodgers tonight and as long as Stewart can provide some solid innings, the hosts should be in good shape. Bettis has overachieved some this season and is probably going to regress as the year progresses.
