Orioles to recall Hess to start Sunday vs. Sox
David Hess will start Sunday’s game against the Red Sox, Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Saturday. Hess made his MLB debut last Saturday, earning a win against the Rays by allowing three runs over six innings. He was sent out shortly after, since the O’s didn’t need another starter at the time, but he’ll be back to take another, tougher turn against the mighty Red Sox. If Hess shows well again Sunday, he’ll likely get some ride in the dumpster fire that is the Orioles rotation.
Red Sox’ Rodriguez takes loss vs. A’s
Eduardo Rodriguez took his first loss after giving up three runs in five innings Tuesday against the A’s. Rodriguez continues to flash above average stuff and pretty mediocre results. He had been 3-0 this year, but his ERA stands at 4.68, even with his fine 51/16 K/BB ratio in 42 1/3 innings. The Red Sox need more from him, especially with the bullpen worn down.
MLB Betting Trends
Baltimore
The Orioles are 1-5 in their last six games in Boston and have dropped eight of their last nine games versus the Red Sox overall.
Minnesota
The under is 6-2-1 in Rodriguez’s last nine starts versus the Orioles.
Prediction:
Rodriguez has been inconsistent and maddening at times this year but I trust him more than the unknown in Hess. Eventually I expect Boston to get to the youngster and if they can’t touch him up, the Baltimore’s pen should be ripe for the taking. The Red Sox are 7-1 in Rodriguez’s last eight starts and have won 11 of his last 15 outings at home. With the money line too expensive, I’ll roll the dice on the runline here.
The Pick: Boston Red Sox -1.5
