Rays win fifth straight
The Rays handed the Angels another loss on Friday, 8-3, to give them five straight wins. All of the wins have come on the road. Tampa is now 21-22 overall and 13-12 on the road. The Rays are putting up 4.42 runs per game this season while allowing 4.60 per contest.
Sergio Romo gets his first start of the season tonight. He has appeared in 18 games in relief appearances and has a 4.96 ERA and 1.53 WHIP. Over 16.1 innings of work, Romo has 20 strikeouts with seven walks.
Angels continue slide at home
The Angels dropped their fourth straight game at home on Friday to fall to 25-20 on the season and 11-16 at home. Los Angeles is scoring 4.69 runs per game in 2018 while giving up 4.24 per contest.
Andrew Heaney gets the start for the Angels this evening. He has started six games on the season and has a 2-2 record with a 3.93 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. Heaney has pitched 34.1 innings and has 39 strikeouts with just nine walks.
MLB Betting Trends
Tampa
The Rays have won six of their last eight against a left-handed starter and they are also 9-4 in their last 13 games against a team with a winning record.
Los Angeles
The Angels have dropped eight of their last 11 against AL East opponents and they also have lost nine of Heaney’s last 13 starts.
Prediction:
The Angels have struggled at home, but I think they can get the win tonight. Romo isn’t a starter, so it’s unclear just how long he can go on the mound. Heaney has been pretty competitive this year, especially in terms of walking few while racking up a lot of strikeouts. I think he will be able to work past the Tampa lineup and lead the Angels to a win.
The Pick: Los Angeles Angels -180
