Rangers vs. Tigers Pick
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, the Tigers are favored at home, as they are getting odds of -135 to win. The Rangers are listed with a money line of +125 to prevail, while the over/under total for the game is listed at 9 runs. These two have yet to meet this season.
The pitching matchup tonight has Nick Martinez (0-2, 5.04 ERA) on the mound to face Daniel Norris (2-2, 4.34) of the Tigers. Martinez has a WHIP of 1.29 this season, allowing 33 hits and just six walks in 30.1 innings of work. He has gotten at least six innings of work in four of his five starts. Norris has struggled, allowing four earned runs in three of his last five outings. He has 19 walks and 46 hits allowed in 37.1 innings and a WHIP of 1.74.
The Tigers are coming off a series win over the Orioles following a 6-5 win on Thursday night. Detroit is now 20-19 overall and 11-8 at home. The Tigers are scoring 4.89 runs per game while allowing 5.18. J.D. Martinez has been rolling since joining the team last week. He is hitting .500 in six games with five home runs and 11 RBI. Justin Upton is adding eight home runs and 20 RBI. The Tigers will be without Miguel Cabrera tonight because of an oblique strain.
The Rangers won their ninth straight game on Thursday when completing a sweep of the Phillies. Texas is 22-20 overall and 6-12 on the road. Texas is putting up 4.73 runs per game while allowing 4.20. Elvis Andrus is leading the team with five home runs and 19 RBI while Nomar Mazara has six home runs and 29 RBI.
While the Tigers are pretty tough at home and Martinez doesn’t have great numbers, I am going to stick with the hot team in Texas. The Rangers are rolling along, putting up 59 runs during this win streak. Texas hitters should continue to pile up the runs against Norris, who hasn’t gotten deep into games. The Detroit bullpen also has some shaky arms, so don’t expect them to contain the bleeding.
