Mets held to one run
New York fell 5-1 at Washington Wednesday night to drop to 20-21 overall and 11-13 on the road. J.D. Davis helped pace the offense as he went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Jeff McNeil was 1-for-3 plus a walk. Juan Lagares ended the contest 1-for-3 with a run scored. Wilmer Font suffered the loss as he gave up five earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks over 2 1/3 innings. Zack Wheeler draws the start today for the Mets as he comes in with a 3-2 record, 4.35 ERA and 1.35 WHIP with 58 strikeouts over 49 2/3 innings.
Corbin sensational in win
Washington earned a 5-1 victory at home Wednesday night to improve to 17-25 overall and 8-12 at home. Patrick Corbin threw a gem as he surrendered one earned run on four hits with 11 strikeouts and one walk over eight innings. Victor Robles helped pace the offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored. Anthony Rendon was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI. Howie Kendrick went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Starting tonight for the Nationals is Anibal Sanchez as he enters with an 0-6 record, 5.27 ERA and 1.68 WHIP with 39 strikeouts over 41 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets are 7-1 in their last eight Thursday games. New York is 4-9 in Wheeler’s last 13 starts versus Washington.
Washington
The Nationals are 6-14 in their last 20 games overall. Washington is 0-5 in the last five Sanchez starts.
Prediction:
While New York couldn’t solve Corbin, Sanchez should provide a much easier challenge as he has struggled all season. Wheeler has been inconsistent, but is facing a lineup that tends to struggle more against right-handed pitching than lefties. Wheeler has the talent to shut down the best of lineups and I think he puts the Mets in a great spot to win here.
