Hendricks guides Cubs to win
Kyle Hendricks threw eight one-run innings and contributed significantly at the plate Tuesday night in a 3-1 victory at Cincinnati. Hendricks gave up just one earned run on three hits with seven strikeouts and one walk over eight innings to earn the win. Steve Cishek threw the final two-thirds of an inning for his third save. Hendricks also went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs at the dish to help pace the offense. Kris Bryant finished 3-for-5 with a double and a run. Willson Contreras was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Yu Darvish starts tonight for the Cubs as he comes in with a 2-3 record, 5.40 ERA and 1.72 WHIP with 44 strikeouts over 36 2/3 innings.
Reds held to three hits
Cincinnati lost by a count of 3-1 at home Tuesday night against Chicago to drop to 18-24 at home and 9-9 at home. Joey Votto finished 1-for-4 with a solo home run in the defeat. Jose Iglesias ended the night 1-for-3. Josh VanMeter finished 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit single. Tanner Roark suffered the loss as he allowed three earned runs on eight hits over five innings, striking out six and walking one. MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The Cubs are 4-0 in their last four road games. Chicago is 4-0 in its last four Wednesday games.
Cincinnati
The Reds are 25-54 in the last 79 meetings. Cincinnati is 3-14 in its last 17 Wednesday games.
Prediction:
Cincinnati should be able to take out its offensive frustrations on the erratic Darvish, who can’t seem to find the plate on a regular basis. Gray has certainly pitched well enough to have a couple of wins by now, so today could very well be the day he busts through. While Chicago has been hot and is the better team, it can’t hold up all season through poor Darvish starts. While he might figure it out eventually, it’s going to take time and I don’t see it happening today.
