Cubs’ Darvish lit up in last start before DL stint
Yu Darvish was lit up for seven hits and six runs (five earned) over 4 1/3 innings Wednesday in the Cubs’ loss to the Rockies. He struck out eight and walked three. Darvish got off to a rocky start (no pun intended), serving up a two-run shot to Nolan Arenado in the first. That was one of three home runs allowed by Darvish, who also yielded solo blasts to Trevor Story and Chris Iannetta, both in the fifth inning.
The 86-pitch outing was Darvish’s shortest of the year. The right-hander has yet to win in a Cubs uniform and now sports an ugly 6.00 ERA in six starts for his new club. He’ll have a chance to redeem himself Tuesday against the Marlins.
Braves’ Foltynewicz allows only an unearned run in last start
Mike Foltynewicz allowed only an unearned run over five innings in a win over the Marlins on Thursday. Folty allowed three hits and walked two over his five innings, and a seven-run sixth inning put him on the right side of the win column. The win improved him to 3-2 in eight starts, and he’s the owners of a 3.21 ERA and 1.31 WHIP. The right-hander will try to keep it going Tuesday when the Cubs are in town.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The Cubs are a perfect 5-0 in their last five trips to Atlanta and are 16-6 in their last 22 games against the Braves despite losing on Monday afternoon.
Atlanta
The under is 9-3-1 in the last 13 meetings between these two teams in Atlanta.
Prediction:
Despite the trend above favoring the under, I like the over tonight with how hot the Braves are offensively. The over is 4-1 in the Braves’ last five games overall, is 11-4 in their last 15 games coming off a win and is 5-2 in their last seven home games. On the other side, the over is 4-1 in the Cubs’ last five games, is 4-1 in their last five games against National League East opponents and is 7-3 in their last 10 games following a loss.
The Pick: Cubs/Braves over 8.5
