Red Sox’ Price dealing with injury
David Price (hand) said he expects to return to the Red Sox rotation Saturday at Toronto. Price was scratched from his last turn Wednesday against the Yankees due to carpal tunnel syndrome, but he got treatment (ice and acupuncture) and threw a successful 40-pitch bullpen session on Thursday afternoon in New York. The 32-year-old left-hander has a brutal 8.47 ERA over his last three outings and a 5.11 ERA in 37 total innings this season, but maybe he can get back on track now that he knows the source of the recurring numbness in his pitching hand.
Blue Jays’ Estrada blanks Rays over six innings
Marco Estrada fired six shutout innings but earned a no decision in the Blue Jays 2-1 victory over the Rays on Sunday. Estrada did have his usual fits of control issues with four walks, but he was able to make the key pitch to get out of the inning, and he struck out three. The six shutout innings lower his ERA to 5.21 on the season. He’ll have to throw more strikes on Saturday if he’s going to have similar results on Saturday when he and the Blue Jays take on the Red Sox.
MLB Betting Trends
Boston
The Red Sox are 9-2 in their last 11 meetings between these two teams in Toronto.
Toronto
The Blue Jays are 0-7 in Estrada’s last seven starts versus the Red Sox and are 0-4 in his last four home outings against Boston.
Prediction:
I envision this game being a shootout. The ove ris 4-1 in Price’s last five starts, is 7-2 in his last nine road outings and is 4-1 in his last five road outings when he’s facing a team with a winning record. On the other side, the over is 6-2 in Estrada’s last eight starts coming off five days of rest, is 4-1 in his last five games when he pitches the second game of a series and is 6-2 in his last eight home starts versus a team with a winning record.
The Pick: Red Sox/Blue Jays over 9.5
