Giants’ Suarez gets first big-league victory over Braves
Andrew Suarez gave up one unearned run in 5 1/3 innings in a 4-3 victory over the Braves on Sunday. Suarez did allow seven hits, but he walked just one, and the southpaw struck out six Braves. The rookie southpaw has looked the part since being called up from Triple-A Sacramento, and he’s now struck out 18 hitters in his first 17 1/3 innings with the Giants. He’ll get another start on Friday against the Pirates, and if he continues this run we might just see Suarez stay in the San Francisco rotation for the foreseeable future.
Pirates’ Taillon limits Brewers to just one run in last start
Jameson Taillon yielded one run on six hits over five innings while taking a no-decision in Saturday’s loss to the Brewers. Taillon kept order in the contest outside of a Hernan Perez RBI double surrendered in the fourth inning. He struck out one and walked two on the evening. For the campaign as a whole, the 26-year-old right-hander is the owner of a 4.42 ERA and 1.28 WHIP through his first seven starts.
While those numbers are somewhat unwieldy, 12 of the 18 runs he has allowed this year have come in just two outings. He’ll try to reign his numbers in further in a home showdown with the Giants when he next toes the rubber.
MLB Betting Trends
San Francisco
The Giants are just 9-12 in their last 21 road games.
Pittsburgh
The Pirates have won 10 of their last 15 games at home.
Prediction:
This is a cheap price on the Pirates with their ace on the hill so laying the -125 has value. I like the under, however. Despite being in a hitter’s park the last four nights, the Giants couldn’t do much offensively. Now they head to pitcher-friendly PNC Park and will face Taillon, who has shut down most of the opponents that he’s faced in 2018. With Suarez’s confidence up off his first big-league win, I like the under tonight.
The Pick: Giants/Pirates under 8
