Pittsburgh Pirates Fantasy Spin
Gregory Polanco went 3-for-4 with a dinger and three RBI during a lopsided loss to the Cardinals on Thursday. He smoked a bases-empty homer in the first inning and later added two run-scoring doubles. The veteran outfielder missed the first month of the season with a shoulder injury but is off to a rousing start after his first 13 games. He owns a swell .308/.368/.519 triple-slash with two homers and eight RBI in 57 plate appearances. He has yet to steal a base this year.
St. Louis Cardinals Fantasy Spin
Paul Goldschmidt went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored as the Cardinals smashed the Pirates on Thursday. The Cardinals scored 17 runs without benefit of a home run. Goldschmidt smacked an RBI-single in the second inning then added a run-scoring ground-rule double in the sixth. The superstar first baseman hasn’t yet displayed his usual MVP-caliber form at the plate in his first season with the Cardinals. He is slashing .252/.331/.457 with nine homers and 21 RBI in 38 games.
MLB Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The Pirates are 5-2 in Trevor Williams’ last seven starts and have won seven of his last 10 outings on the road.
St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals are 42-17 in Adam Wainwright’s last 59 home starts.
Prediction:
Given how inconsistent these offenses have been over the past week, it wouldn’t be a shock if tonight’s game is the exact opposite of last night’s and the clubs combined for only a handful of runs. That said, the over is 5-1 in the last six meetings between these two teams, is 12-4-3 in Wainwright’s last 19 home starts against the Pirates and 21-7-5 in his last 33 outings versus Pittsburgh overall. I think the blowup potential is greater than the odds of a pitcher’s duel. I’ll ride with the over.
