Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers, the Mets are the slight favorite on the road, as they are getting odds of -120 to win. Cincinnati is getting a money line of +100 to win, while the over/under total has been set at 9.5 runs. The public betting currently has 65% going on New York on the road today. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our MLB Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.
Mets unable to win back-to-back
The Mets ended a six-game losing streak on Monday with a 7-6 win over the Reds, but they were able to extend that into a win streak in a 7-2 loss on Tuesday. New York is now 18-16 overall and 11-6 on the road. The Mets are averaging 4.39 runs per game this season while allowing 4.64 per contest.
Zack Wheeler gets the start for the Mets this afternoon. He is 2-2 through five starts with a 5.79 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. He has 24 strikeouts with 11 walks this season in 28 innings pitched. He is actually coming off an 8-run performance against the Rockies in his last start that ballooned his ERA.
Reds end their skid
The Cincinnati Reds put an end to their latest 3-game losing streak on Tuesday. They have still dropped six of their last eight games. They are now 9-27 overall and 5-15 at home. The Reds have won back-to-back games just once this season. Cincinnati is putting up 3.97 runs per game this season while allowing 5.46 per contest.
Sal Romano takes the mound for the Reds this afternoon. He is 2-3 through seven starts with a 4.21 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP. Romano has pitched 36.1 innings and has 19 strikeouts with 16 walks. He has given up just 6 earned runs total over his last four starts.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets have lost four of their last five Game 3’s in a series and they have lost four of their last five against a right-handed starter.
Cincinnati
The Reds are just 6-21 in their last 27 home games and 3-15 in their last 18 home games against a right-handed starter. However, they are 5-1 in Romano’s last six starts against NL East opponents.
Prediction:
These two pitchers seem headed in different directions. Romano has been pitching pretty well the last few weeks while Wheeler is coming off his worst outing of the year. While I don’t think Cincinnati can put up eight runs of damage on Wheeler, I do think he could struggle on the road. Romano should be able to have a strong start against this struggling New York lineup and I think he leads them to another win.
The Pick: Cincinnati Reds +100
