Diamondbacks’ Corbin now unbeaten over nine starts
Patrick Corbin gave up just three hits and a run over six stellar innings in a no-decision Thursday against the Dodgers. He fanned five and walked two while throwing 57 of his 92 pitches for strikes. The only run Corbin allowed came on Austin Barnes’ solo home run in the second inning. The left-hander didn’t have his usual velocity on Thursday but still registered his fourth straight quality start. He also drove in a run with an RBI single while raising his season average to .308. Corbin will take a nine-start unbeaten streak into his next outing Wednesday against the same Dodgers team he just faced.
Dodgers’ Wood throws five innings in no-decision vs. D-Backs
Alex Wood scattered four hits and a run over five innings in a no-decision Thursday against the D’Backs. Wood logged eight strikeouts and two walks over his 96 pitches. At one point a trainer came out to examine Wood’s left leg but he got the go-ahead to continue after throwing a few warmup pitches without issue. The left-hander ran into some trouble in the second, allowing a run on two hits and a walk but escaped further damage by inducing an inning-ending double play. Wood has yet to win a game this year despite a respectable 3.83 ERA.
